lang=\"EN-US\">Biogas is a scarcely exploited resource in Spain. Currently, there are hardly any infrastructures for its utilization, contrasting with the situation in Northern Europe. The document \u201c<em>Hoja de ruta del biog\u00e1s en Espa\u00f1a<\/em>\u201d (Biogas Roadmap in Spain), presented in October 2020 by the Spanish Government, foresees a production capacity of ca. 34 TWh\/year by harnessing this renewable resource. Among its uses is heat production and its transformation through reforming (dry or with steam) into hydrogen. Among the primary sources of biogas, it can be highlighted the organic fraction of solid waste (OFMSW) or the sludge from wastewater treatment plants (WWTP). The capacity of other industries such as agricultural, cattle or agri-food should not be forgotten.<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Our research group (CREG, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/creg.i3a.es\/es\/\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">https:\/\/creg.i3a.es<\/span><\/a><span lang=\"EN-US\">) has been working for years on the thermocatalytic methanation of CO<sub>2<\/sub> contained in biogas. In this way, Synthetic Natural Gas (SNG) with characteristics analogous to fossil fuels can be obtained, which can be consumed on-site or injected in the yet existing natural gas network. In both cases, this transformation (&#8220;upgrading&#8221;) is particularly interesting as a means of transportation (via pipeline) and storage of renewable energy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">El proyecto de investigaci\u00f3n consiste en estudiar el uso de corrientes de gas ricas en CO<sub>2<\/sub>, juntamente con hidr\u00f3geno renovable para producir gas natural sint\u00e9tico (SNG o biometano). Como fuente de CO<sub>2<\/sub>, se ha elegido un biog\u00e1s con una composici\u00f3n cercana a la obtenida en vertederos de residuos s\u00f3lidos urbanos (RSU). Como fuente de hidr\u00f3geno se utilizar\u00e1 H<sub>2<\/sub> de alta pureza, como el producido a partir de excedentes de electricidad (procedentes de instalaciones e\u00f3licas o fotovoltaicas en horas \"valle\" -menor demanda que oferta-) mediante electr\u00f3lisis. El producto resultante es el conocido \"Gas Natural Sint\u00e9tico\" (o \"Gas Natural Renovable\" o \"Biometano\") con caracter\u00edsticas comparables a las de origen f\u00f3sil, pero con un origen completamente \"verde\". Dicho producto podr\u00eda inyectarse en la red de gas natural ya existente, favoreciendo el almacenamiento y transporte de energ\u00eda<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Para llevar a cabo este proceso, se ha propuesto adoptar dos formas de operar en paralelo: A) utilizando reactores convencionales (lecho fijo -FBR- y lecho fluidizado -FLBR-) y s\u00f3lidos multifuncionales (trifuncionales) que operan c\u00edclicamente en 2 etapas; y B) m\u00e1s tradicional en cuanto a los s\u00f3lidos, pero con configuraciones de reactor \"no convencionales\" como politr\u00f3pico (alimentaci\u00f3n m\u00faltiple -PFBR-) y un reactor de lecho fijo con pared de membrana (MB-FBR).<\/p>\n<p><strong>More informaci\u00f3n:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p class=\"tp_pub_author\">Arag\u00fc\u00e9s-Aldea, P.; Mercader, V.
