This project focuses on the production of syngas, a platform for obtaining methanol and biofuels, and olefins from methanol using hydrogen from renewable energy sources and captured CO2. The INTENSO-CO2 project aims to significantly improve conventional technology, enabling better utilization of CO2 from other production processes and facilitating the potential chemical storage of future hydrogen surpluses from renewable sources.
To achieve this, the project proposes the use of a new type of improved adsorption reactor (SER) based on fluidized beds with continuous adsorbent flow. These reactors would achieve high reactant conversions and operate in a steady state. They would offer improved performance compared to other processes described in the literature.
A system in which the adsorbent can be continuously fed into and withdrawn from the reactor, while keeping the catalyst inside, is clearly advantageous. The positive effect of water removal has been clearly demonstrated in our current membrane reactor project and in numerous scientific publications using SER (Sequencing and Reduction Systems). However, our proposal is highly innovative in that it incorporates a novel approach to achieving this continuous feed of adsorbent into the catalytic reactor. We intend to exploit the segregation mechanism that occurs in fluidized beds containing two solids with different particle sizes and/or densities.
